Incomprehensible
No child (or family) has the mental capacity to fully comprehend the diagnosis of terminal pediatric cancer, nor can they wrap their head around the death of their child.
When 10-year-old Cody was diagnosed with a metastatic stomach tumor, every ounce of family energy went into finding treatment and a cure for the talented kid who loves math, music, hiking, and going on family trips to the beach. Never did Cody's parents imagine paid leave would run out at the hospital where one works as a physician, the other a paramedic. Savings account empty, there suddenly are no funds to pay the monthly mortgage.
When 7 yo John was diagnosed with metastatic osteosarcoma (a bone tumor below his knee) in kindergarten, his parents emptied their savings on various chemotherapy and radiation treatments around the country, remission the goal. Full of life and energy, John never gave up or complained as he underwent two years of treatment. Unfortunately, John failed to go into remission, the tumor spread, and John died last week. Overwhelmed with medical and personal bills, his parents and older brother have no funds for a funeral to celebrate John's life.
Families do not plan for their child to be diagnosed with cancer, nor does a parent imagine their kid will die. The incomprehensible journey that requires unplanned life expenses and survival skills is something no parent plans for nor something one can comprehend from diagnosis to death.
Thank you for helping Jane's Fund pay bills and give HOPE with anonymous LOVE when the incomprehensible happens.
