Dear Jane’s Fund, Love Caroline

Diary of DIPG
- A note of gratitude in the midst of pain and suffering

Dear Jane’s Fund,

I have a brain tumor and had to leave school last year in 11th grade to start radiation treatments because my vision turned double and I kept falling down. In the beginning, my parents hired a nurse to help me at home while they went to work. I miss school so much and tried to do my homework to prove I could go back. I still dream about my college applications for UNC and App State but now I need help with everything. My parents told me your foundation paid our mortgage bills so they can miss work and be home to help me. I decided to write this letter because you don’t know how much better you made things at my house, especially for my sisters. Now I am in a hospital bed in my parent’s room because I cannot walk and they can’t carry me. Watching TV is impossible and I cannot swallow and get my food from a feeding tube. My parents read to me and tell me stories but I feel best when I am outside in sunshine. I listen to birds. Your foundation built a ramp so a wheelchair can get in and out of my house because my parents cannot carry me. You have no idea what a big deal this is. (Like a really big deal).  I don’t know how much longer I have but I wanted you to know how much better you have made my life since I got my brain tumor. Please help others like me.

We don’t know you but we love you and thank you,

Caroline (with help from Mom and Dad)
