Leaders: On the Court, in the Classroom, and in Life

Mr. Watson, middle school Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher at Ranson IB Middle School, is a leader with many incredible gifts. Last spring he recognized a problem and proactively designed a solution to meet the need - and Jane's Fund is grateful for our relationship with Ranson so we could fund this game-changing summer experience.

The Problem
50 middle school boys and girls...all athletes, entrepreneurs, and creative thinkers....all on free or reduced lunch program at school....all without summer plans.

The Solution: Sports, Finance and Leadership (SFL) Summer Camp
A four-week summer camp from 9am-3pm that combines sport in the morning, and financial literacy and leadership skills in the afternoon with the following enrichments:

  • Weekly field trips to learn about future career opportunities in the Queen City in areas of nutrition, training, sports marketing and management, data analytics and finance management.

  • Book clubs with books questioning if we become what we think we are and how to approach life to achieve personal and professional success.

  • Positive adult mentors - coaches and financial and leadership teachers.

  • Healthy food and snacks.

The Result

  • Budding leaders and entrepreneurs

  • New life goals and innovative ideas

  • Increased confidence and decreased anxiety

  • Unforgettable experiences

  • Teamwork

  • New friends
