Back to School
As we kick-off our second full school year at Jane’s Fund, we were surprised to discover some of the challenges children face in some of the under-resourced schools we serve:
Most scholars do not have school uniforms.
Many scholars don’t have a backpack with school supplies to call their own.
In some grades, recess takes place on pot-holed bus parking lots that lack balls and other equipment that encourage play and creativity.
High school drop-out rates are high and scholars lack plans for a job or post-secondary education at the age of 18.
Teacher, bus driver, and funding shortages prevent field trips and experiences to places like Discovery Place and local history museums.
Is is possible for anyone to be excited about a brand new school year without the clothes, supplies, and resources needed to learn and grow?
Today, on Miracle Monday, thousands of CMS scholars will walk into school:
Wearing a uniform.
Carrying a backpack full of school supplies.
Have brand new basketball hoops, hopscotch, and 4-square on the blacktop at recess.
Planning to graduate high school with a computer and dorm supplies, ready to start a new job or be college bound.
Hearing about a planned field trip to Camp Thunderbird, New York City, or the White Water Center.
... and Jane's Fund has just gotten started.
While the miracles are multiplying, there is much more work to be done. Thank YOU for helping us ensure students are equipped with what they need to start the school year off right!
