Turn up the Music
West Charlotte High School rang in 2025 with a Football State Championship and a marching band in the running for 1st place in North Carolina…and Jane’s Fund is celebrating January like never before.
Jane’s Fund was a nonexistent dream when our first education meeting took place at WCHS three years ago. We showed up to listen as the principal shared the football team can’t compete without new helmets, the prom will be cancelled without a venue and food, and as graduation draws near, it’s obvious that students cannot go to college post-covid without a computer (something college scholarships do not include). We raised our hands!
As Martin Luther King Junior liked to say, “The time is always right to do what is right, and faith is taking the first step when you cannot see the staircase.”
It became obvious that day at WCHS that healthy students in our community need as much support as those with terminal cancer. The decision to launch Jane's Fund seemed necessary after that meeting, even if supporting those basic asks would be the end of it. The collaboration also highlighted the simple truth that real relationships, built on trust and respect, are essential to providing meaningful impact in the lives of kids in our community. Seeds planted three years ago are bearing fruit as Jane's Fund and WCHS leaders work to tackle ACT prep, attendance initiatives, a student trip to NYC, a growing music program, and graduating seniors who need a computer. Jane's Fund and WCHS are in harmony and making more music than ever before. With an attendance goal of 90%, WCHS is currently at 89%... and it’s only January.
Music is a universal gift that has the unique power to connect, heal, encourage, and communicate without words. Whether covered in pain or celebrating a victory today, turn up the music...and please help Jane’s Fund give West Charlotte High School the tools they need to help students grow and live out their dreams.
