Sisters Rescuing Sisters
Sisters may fight, compete, or live in their own bubble, but when life goes sideways and one needs help...WATCH OUT WORLD!
At Jane's Fund, we have a front row seat to the many miracles that happen every day between sisters when one is diagnosed with cancer that doesn't have a life-saving treatment. Sisters navigate new roles in the home as they press on with responsibilities of school, work and a world that doesn't stop. Sisters sleep on hospital floors, take on parenting jobs, decide to get sober, sneak into each other's beds at night to laugh, cry, share secrets, dream big, and make eternal pinky promises. Sisters somehow lighten the load for each other during incomprehensible life circumstances.
12-year-old Mia didn't recognize quite what a superhero her big sister Ashley played in her life until 17-year-old Ashley got diagnosed with a high-grade brain glioma nine months ago. Ashley's academic success in high school, job at Chick-Fil-A that helped Mom pay household bills, and unique ability to cheer Mia through middle school as she battled through chemo and radiation prepared Mia for the journey ahead.
Ashley went to Heaven two weeks ago and passed her torch of strength and courage to Mia. Back in school, she finds life unrelatable to peers but has learned angels don't just live in Heaven...they show up on earth: social worker Diana introduced Mia this week to a stranger named Piper (who also lost her 17-year-old sister to a brain tumor). Seven-year-old Junior, Mia's little brother, jumped out from behind closed doors shouting, "Ashley is saying I love you from Heaven" as the two sisters shared and gave each other HOPE.
You've got this Mia!
