Possible in the Impossible
When a child is diagnosed with terminal cancer, the impact can destroy the entire family:
Parents and siblings are more likely to experience a variety of mental disorders: complicated grief, anxiety, PTSD, depression, anger, and guilt.
Many families experience significant financial hardship arising from the unplanned cost of medical bills and a funeral, added to the need to take time away from work.
After her daughter Kenzi was diagnosed with high-grade leukemia, single-mother Britney found herself in an impossible situation, wondering how to move forward. The medical oncology team at Brenner Children’s Hospital-Atrium Wake Forest Baptist provided an exceptional treatment plan, including a bone marrow transplant, while also offering crucial medical and emotional support for both Mom and daughter. Faced with the difficult choice between work and accompanying Kenzi to her treatments, Britney took a leave from work. She never imagined that paying bills would become one of life’s greatest challenges. Understanding the impossible decisions Britney faced, social worker Jodi stepped in to light a path forward - reaching out to Jane’s Fund for help. Britney’s mortgage is now paid in full and she owns her home.
Thank you for allowing Jane’s Fund to join Kenzi’s “angel army.” Your generosity provides hope in dark times and helps create POSSIBLE in the midst of a seemingly impossible journey. Because of your kindness, a family grappling with terminal pediatric cancer is less likely to suffer from untreated mental health issues and can take the next step with renewed confidence.
